Caucuses

The California Anti-Racism Alliance’s network primarily meets and organizes through our caucuses, made up of alumni of Racial Equity Institute (REI) and Groundwater Institute (GWI) workshops and trainings. The purpose of these caucuses is to harness the collective power of individuals and organizations in California working with a shared analysis of historical and structural racism. Our statewide and local caucuses come together to apply and put the race analysis provided by REI and GWI to action.

We have a monthly statewide caucus that is designed to convene all California-based REI and GWI alumni, build capacity for our local caucuses, to share and network from different regions in California, and to organize on statewide issues. Our monthly statewide caucus currently meets virtually on second Thursdays from 5:30-7:30pm PT and is open to all REI and GWI alumni—access to the virtual meetings are sent through our newsletter, so please send us a message and let us know you are an REI or GWI alumni to receive an invitation.

Our local caucuses are made up of existing organizations that engage with CARA-hosted trainings and use the race analysis provided by REI and GWI as well as caucuses that were formed from the ground up by CARA’s alumni base in a particular city or region. If a local caucus does not yet exist in your area, please contact us, so we can help you build it.

Please see the following list for established local caucuses, contact information, and meeting times:
